Candidates running for Newton City Council seats will have an opportunity to share viewpoints and meet constituents in preparation for the upcoming November 7 election. Abernethy Laurels and Newton-Conover Satellite Rotary Club are hosting the candidate forum on Thursday, October 12. The event will take place in the Community Center of Abernethy Laurels, directly off of Highway 16 in Newton, beginning at 5:30pm. Doors will open at 5pm. The event is free to the public and anyone interested is encouraged to attend. Nine candidates have announced they are running for the three council seats that are on the ballot in November. They are: Mary Bess Lawing, David LeFevers, Ed T. Sain, Robert (Smitty) Smith, John Stiver, Collette Williams Touchette, Wes Weaver, David A. Weldon, and Anne Abernethy Wepner.
