The Folkways Film Series is a collaboration between Hart Square Foundation, Footcandle Film Society, and Folkstreams.
This series will provide a platform to preserve and share the stories of America by showcasing documentaries on a variety of folklife topics: dance, music, food, and craft. Screenings will take place every Thursday evening in June in the Great Hall of Hart Square’s Sigmon Family Education Center. Each screening will feature a collaborating artisan who is a subject matter expert on the aspect of folklife featured in that week’s film.
June 5 features Craft Traditions. Films include Crawdad Slip and Learned in Back in the Day and Kept It. June 12 features Foodways. The film that will be screened is Southern Stews: A Taste of the South. June 19 features music with the films Me and Stella and Musical Holdouts. The series will culminate on June 26 with Talking Feet, a film about traditional dance.
