FryeCare Sports Concussion Clinic recently opened and would like to invite you to their open house and ribbon cutting on Wednesday, September 6th at 4:30 pm. The clinic is located at 52 12th Ave NE in Hickory. Representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and City of Hickory officials will be on hand to offer congratulatory remarks.
When it comes to concussions, the best thing an athlete can do is try to prevent one from happening. But when that fails, athletic trainers and doctors are on standby to make sure the athlete has a healthy recovery. Last year, around 150 athletes at four area high schools suffered a concussion. With the help of ImPACT testing, or Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment Cognitive Testing, physicians and athletic trainers were able to determine the best course of treatment for these athletes.
Dr. Payton Fennell, with FryeCare Sports Concussion Clinic, is Hickory’s new Sports Medicine and Concussion Care physician. Fennell is board certified in sports medicine. He has more than 10 years of experience using ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment Cognitive Training). He is a specialist in concussion management and baseline neurocognitive testing. Until moving to Hickory, Fennell was a team physician for the Carolina Hurricanes while practicing in Cary, NC. Fennell is already seeing and treating patients. The clinic is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 52 12th Ave. NE in Hickory. To schedule an appointment, call 828-485-3004.
